All health facilities in the Western Sector of Greater Southern Area Health Service have been awarded full four-year accreditation by the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS).

"ACHS accreditation sends a clear message to the community that the Area Health Service, its management and staff, are committed to excellence in health care with a strong a continuing focus on safety, quality and performance,” Greater Southern Area Health Service acting chief executive Dr Maggie Jamieson says.

"I commend all involved for their contribution not only during the assessment and evaluation process, but also for their support and commitment to quality through continuing dialogue and improvement initiatives.

"We are aware that consumers today demand a high standard of health care and we are pleased and proud that our health facilities across the Western Sector have been recognised for meeting this expectation.”

The ACHS accreditation team visited all facilities across the Western Sector; including hospitals, multi-purpose services, aged care and community health centres. The sector includes towns stretching from Narrandera to Tooleybuc and Hillston to Tocumwal.

ACHS is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of health care in Australia through the continual review of performance, assessment and accreditation. It was established in 1974 and is the leading independent authority on the measurement and implementation of quality improvement systems for Australian health care organisations.

Health facilities in the Eastern and Central Sectors of GSAHS are currently undergoing their ACHS accreditation.
