The Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy, will be performed at Griffith Regional Theatre in August.
The production stars a host of familiar faces including Debra Lawrence (Home & Away, Blue Heelers) as Daisy, and Brian Davison (Of Mice & Men, The Miracle of the Rose) as Hoke Colburn.
Set at a time prior to the civil rights movement, the story follows Daisy Werthan, a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow of 72, who has just crashed another car. Daisy’s son Boolie takes matters into his own hands and hires Hoke Colburn, a thoughtful, unemployed African-American, to work as Miss Daisy’s chauffeur.
What starts out as a rocky and tense relationship, develops into a bonded friendship as the two learn to understand and respect each other.
The story covers 25 years from 1948 and explores the timeless themes of racism, prejudice and friendship.
Brought to Griffith by touring company HIT Productions, Alfred Uhry’s prize-winning play, which inspired the Academy Award-winning film starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, will be performed on Saturday, August 21 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available at the Theatre Box Office on 6962 8444.
